There’s something about fall that makes me want to reset the entire house.
Maybe it’s the cooler weather.
Maybe it’s knowing we’ll be spending more time inside.
Or maybe I just want an excuse to buy a candle and pretend that lighting it counts as cleaning.
Either way, fall is when I like to make a few changes around the house.
Put Away Summer
The first step is getting the summer stuff under control.
I go through:
● Summer clothes
● Pool supplies
● Outdoor toys
● Summer shoes
● Seasonal decorations
Anything we won’t need for a while gets cleaned up and stored.
Refresh the Kids’ Spaces
I don’t completely redecorate.
I just make things easier for the season we’re entering.
I check clothes sizes, swap seasonal items, and make sure coats and shoes are accessible.
It’s also a good time to pull out anything they’ve outgrown.
Make the House Feel Cozy
This is the fun part.
A few blankets.
Some pillows.
Fall-colored decorations.
A candle.
Maybe a little seasonal artwork.
It doesn’t take much to make a house feel different.
And I don’t think you need to buy an entire new collection of decorations every year.
Sometimes rearranging what you already own is enough.
Create a Cozy Corner
Every fall, I like having somewhere the kids can curl up.
A basket of books.
A blanket.
A comfortable chair or couch.
Maybe a few seasonal books.
It doesn’t have to be fancy.
Just somewhere that makes everyone want to slow down for a minute.
Make Room for Fall Life
The best part of a seasonal reset isn’t how the house looks.
It’s how the house feels.
Fall means school.
Homework.
Football games.
Halloween.
Baking.
Movie nights.
More evenings at home.
So I try to organize our spaces around the life we’re actually about to live.
That’s what a home reset is really about.
Not making everything perfect.
Making room for the next season.
